Sacred Stitches

This ministry was started in 2010 by a small group of women who like to sew.  They decided to make quilts for two very different projects.  First, small quilts are sewn and donated to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Hartford Hospital, where they are used to drape over the incubators to cut down on the amount of light getting to the infants.  Second, larger lap-sized quilts are made and donated to Covenant to Care, with whom ECC has an ongoing agreement of support for the Social Workers who serve children in the care of DCF.  Each year so far, an average of 20 quilts has been completed for each project.  The group meets once a month, and newcomers are always welcome.

The ministry provides instructions and supplies, and meets on the second Monday of each month in the Social Room from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m . Bring your sewing supplies, machine and a bag lunch. Not a quilter? Not to worry. We can show you how. Come and join us for a day of relaxed sewing and fellowship. The coffee pot is always on! If you have questions, please call Peg Doffek, 860-454-7360 or Judy White, 860-875-6642.

On Sunday, June 25th, the quilts were displayed in the Sanctuary to be blessed by the congregation. A total of 12 NICU quilts and 19 larger quilts received the blessing, led by Pastor Don Bailey-Francois.
